About this Class

In the modern world of communicating through social media platforms, we’ve come to heavily rely on emojis such as thumbs up, smiley faces, and high fives to tell us whether someone likes us, appreciates our message, or agrees with our perspective. In face-to-face interactions, we’re forever in search of a quick smile, head nod, or verbal affirmation letting us know we’re heading in the right direction.

What You'll Learn

Often, when there is a lack of these indicators, we begin to question ourselves – did we come off too harsh, not interesting, not worthy … not likeable. And that’s because being “liked” is hardwired into our DNA. It’s how we survived and thrived as a species. Anyone not accepted into the tribe was left to perish on their own.

Although we no longer need to equate being banished with certain death, we can’t help but to continue chasing the hormonal high of feeling accepted. It’s this quest for recognition that often derails us from our mission, causes us unnecessary heartache, and deepens our loneliness.

In this Q&A, we’ll discuss the various ways to get past not being liked by others as well as when not being liked is actually a good thing.

“You have enemies? Good. That means you’ve stood up for something, sometime in your life.”

— Winston Churchill
